MPI is helping to seize export opportunities for New Zealand’s industries, improve sector productivity, ensure the food we produce is safe, increase sustainable resource use, and protect New Zealand from biological risk.

You will be leading a team of Kaiwhakahaere (Relationship Managers) to deliver improvement in collaboration with Manawhenua, Iwi, Hapū, Whānau and associated Māori organisations.  You will lead the team in anchoring the Treaty/Te Tiriti to the work of the Readiness and Response Services directorate.  This would include developing a partnering model around pest/disease incursions and responses. This role is  part of the management team for the Partnerships and Engagement Group, and is a new role leading a new team. As such the responsibilities of this position are expected to evolve over time.

You will have had broad experience working with Manawhenua and Hapū, particularly across environmental and resource management issues.  You will have rolled your sleeves up and had your hands in the whenua, the wai and the moana and have your own well-developed networks.  You will have been able to understand and translate government speak, in ways that engage and create commitments and be able to walk in the world of Government, and in Te Ao Māori.  You will be recognised as a great enabler and for getting things done – knowing the time to challenge, and the time to make peace.
