About the role - Mō te tūnga

The Team Leader - Family Group Conferences provides leadership to a team of Coordinators who are responsible for convening and holding Family Group Conferences (FGC) under the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989.

In this role you will be responsible for the FGC workplan across your region. You will provide professional development and supervision to a team of Coordinators focusing on continuous improvement and ensuring a high standard of FGC practice across Oranga Tamariki.

This role will be based within the South Auckland region working in the Services for Children and Families portfolio.

Key accountabilities include the following:

  • Managing the FGC function for your region in accordance with legislation
  • Managing and developing a team of FCG coordinators
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including: Site Managers, Site teams, and Practice Leaders
  • Regularly reviewing and improving systems, processes, frameworks, tools, and standards
  • Monitoring demand and quality across FGCs in your region
  • Managing workflows and caseloads for your team
  • Collaborating with the National Advisor FGC in the Professional Practice Group and other FGC Team Leaders to provide tools, resources, guidance, and learning resources for your team
  • Providing reporting and analysis across your region
  • Effectively managing risk

To apply for this role, you must demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:

  • Experience leading a team
  • Ideally a minimum of three years experience of coordinating FGCs or organising and facilitating complex and sensitive group meetings with multiple stakeholders
  • A full, clean driver's licence
  • Social sector and/or community experience
  • Knowledge of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 and other relevant legislation, or experience working with legislation and the ability to learn and apply it quickly
  • Strong understanding of, and experience in of applying the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • Experience with facilitation, mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • The ability to communicate complex ideas to a range of audiences
  • Aptitude to provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and enhancing capability in people
  • Strong relationship management skills including experience working in partnership with communities and key stakeholders
  • Ability to suggest improvements based on critical thinking and reflective practice
  • A commitment to Oranga Tamariki's Māori cultural framework

If you have the following experience or skills it will be advantageous to your application:

  • Fluency in Te Reo
  • Strong relationships within your region, both internally and externally
