Mō te tūranga - About the role
The Animal Health and Welfare Directorate is looking for a highly capable people leader to hold a significant high profile portfolio in animal health and exports for the Ministry of Primary Industries.
This new position will have the responsibility for facilitating the export of live animals and germplasm and help develop the standards to enable this to happen. Livestock export is a challenging and dynamic area so you'll need to be comfortable with fluid environments and managing people in them.
You'll also have responsibility for developing a new animal health team that provides trusted veterinary and scientific advice focused on domestic animal health for the veterinary and primary animal production sectors.
At a system and strategic level, this is an exciting and dynamic leadership role with operational, regulatory and technical challenge and you will play a key central role in improving integration and alignment of the animal health and welfare systems in NZ. Managing technical people to deliver practical outcomes will be a proven strength.
This is a permanent full time position based in Wellington, the remuneration for this role will be paid commensurate to the experience of the successful candidate, the salary range is from $148K to $201K with a mid-point at $175K.

You'll hold a veterinary qualification (registerable in NZ) or tertiary biological science qualification, and will have experience at Senior Management level with a track record of successful strategic leadership.
Up-to-date knowledge of current trends in the international and domestic animal health regulatory environments, with a demonstrated background as a leader; you will understand how to lead, motivate and develop technical staff, and your ability to see the big picture while remaining flexible and adaptable to political pressures will underpin your success in this role.
