At Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children, we work with families and communities to help protect, support and care for children and young people. The role of a Social Worker is varied and rewarding, and you'll be part of a supportive team who are instrumental in helping children, young people and their families to be safe, strong and thrive.
About the role:
Your role will be to support carers in providing nurturing, safe and stable homes for tamariki and rangatahi. You’ll focus on building and maintaining our caregiver pool to provide the very best of care to children and young people.
Supporting caregivers and collaborating with the child's social worker will be a focus of the role. You'll also be working with other social services, agencies and providers to ensure the needs of the child or young person and their family are fully met. This role requires excellent assessment skills, and the ability to train carers.
You will be part of a supportive team that works from a strengths-based perspective, and is fully committed to achieving positive change for the children, young people and their whānau in this community. Some travel may be required in the Christchurch/North Canterbury region.

What you will bring:
- Full registration with New Zealand’s Social Work Registration Board (SWRB) or able to register
- A social worker qualification recognised by the SWRB
- Clean driver’s licence
