As a Counsellor, you'll manaaki the success of our learners, through providing professional, high quality counselling services, with a particular focus on supporting our Māori learners.
You'll act as a subject matter expert in Tikanga and share the values and practices of Kaupapa Māori with your wider team, helping to upskill and support them. You will have the opportunity to participate in Powhiri and join in with Marae team and events, increasing your visibility as a counsellor and supporting accessibility to the counselling services.

This is a part-time (0.8FTE) fixed term position ending on 18 December 2020. The hours of work are 7.5 hours per day (exclusive of an unpaid lunch break) to be worked on Tuesday to Friday. You'll be based at out Mt Albert campus, with Wednesday being a day you'll spend working at our Waitakere campus.
To be successful in this position you will have experience in providing counselling services in an educational or social services setting. You will have experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds, and in dealing with a broad range of issues including risk assessment and intervention. You will hold a Post Graduate or Masters tertiary qualification, which is acceptable to the NZAC (or equivalent), and have full membership of NZAC (or equivalent). You'll also demonstrate:
- An in-depth understanding of Tikanga and Te Reo Māori and the values and practices of Kaupapa Māori
- Successful comprehensive experience as a Counsellor/Mental Health Professional
- Experience in successfully assessing and managing risk
