Our Purpose: Why we do it

A connected and equitable South Island health and social system that supports all people to be well and healthy.

The South Island Alliance (SIAPO) was established in 2011 to focus on the challenges the region faced collectively and the efficiencies that could be gained by working together. The five South Island district health boards (DHBs) decided the South Island would take a collaborative, clinically-led and patient-focused approach through an alliance structure

The Team: What we do

The South Island Workforce Development Hub is part of SIAPO and supports workforce development, education and training to better meet the health needs of our South Island population.

The Role: Where you fit in

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Supporting the project to increase the Māori health workforce and ensure it is well supported and thrives in the South Island
  • Effectively communicating and building relationships with key stakeholders including in District Health Boards (DHBs), Kōhatu, University of Otago, Primary Health Providers (PHOs), Māori Health providers and Iwi

Your skills will include the following:

  • Understanding and competency in Te Reo Māori and Tikanga
  • An understanding and commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and its relevance to the health workforce and health system
  • Demonstrated project planning and management experience ideally in workforce development
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the New Zealand health and education sector
