We believe that those who can, teach, and those who teach, lead. Teach First NZ Ako Mātātupu is an innovative not-for-profit organisation. We develop outstanding individuals into highly effective teachers and inspirational leaders, who work to address one of New Zealand's most pressing issues - educational inequality.
Ko wai mātou
Mēnā ka taea, ka whakaako, mēnā ka whakaako, ka ārahi. He rōpū kore-huamoni a Te Ako Mātātupu.
We believe two things can make a big difference to educational inequality:
1. Great teachers working to raise aspiration and achievement in high-need classrooms; and
2. Leaders in all parts of our society, equipped with the skills to affect large-scale change.
He kaiako ki te akiaki i ngā wawatā me ngā paetae o ngā tauira kei rō kura kore-whiwhi;
The Teach First NZ programme aims to deliver on both.
Our programme provides carefully selected participants with the opportunity to have a meaningful impact. Participants first of all go through a 9-week Intensive training period between November and January then begin work as a part-time (0.6 FTTE) teacher in a secondary school that serve a low socioeconomic community. Over the 2 years of the programme participants also receive in-school mentoring (0.2 FTTE) and study towards a Masters of Teaching and Education Leadership which is delivered by The Mind Lab.
Nā te āhuatanga o tā mātou hōtaka ka whai mātou i ngā kaiwhakaurunga tika mo tēnei kaupapa. Mo ngā wiki e iwa ka noho tahi ngā kaiwhakaurunga kua whai tūnga katoa, mai Whiringa-ā-rangi ki Hakihea, ki te wānanga mo ngā mahi kaiako o Aoteroa. Kātahi ka timata i tō rātou mahi i tētahi kura. Mo ngā tau e rua ka mahi i te taha o tētahi tuakana, ka whai hoki i te tohu Masters of Teaching and Education Leadership ki The Mind Lab o Te Whare Wānanga o Wairaka.
The Teach First NZ programme offers a big challenge that comes with autonomy, challenge, and reward. You will not only see the real and tangible impact that you can have on your students and the community, but will also receive a full-time salary and a full scholarship towards your Masters of Teaching and Education Leadership.
Ko te mānuka e takoto nei, he mānuka tino rangatiratanga, he mānuka wero, he mānuka whai hua. Mā tēnei mahi ka taea te kite i ngā hua o a tātou mahi me te ako hoki me aha anō tātou ki te āwhina i te kaupapa. Ka whai mahi tūturu, ā ka whai korahipi mo te Masters of Teaching and Education Leadership hoki koe.
For many of our participants, the end of the two-year programme marks the next step in their careers as they take on leadership positions in schools and the wider community (charities, government, business) and where they continue working to address educational inequality.
