The Teaching Council is an independent professional body that acts in the interests of all teachers. The Council is looking for an experienced and recognized cultural advisor whose knowledge of mātauranga Māori and tikanga is recognized by Te Ao Māori in their work.

The Teaching Council has been working on developing their cultural responsiveness for the past three years and now has an ambitious bi-cultural strategy, Te Tiriti Strategy.  This new role will have the responsibility to embed the Strategy effectively and thoroughly into the culture of the Council.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive you will provide strategic direction and expert advice to the leadership team as well as develop the implementation plan for the Te Tiriti Strategy. 

You will have a strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and significant management and Public Sector experience. You will also have a passion for education and in-depth understanding of Māori Medium Education systems.

Your strong networks with mana whenua, hapū, Māori and Pasifika leaders and communities are essential in this role as is your fluency and confidence in te reo and tikanga Māori.
