Closing Date : 10 May 2019
- National service for children in care
- Advocacy, support and engagement
- Voluntary/small stipend available
At VOYCE, we believe children and young people in care need to be heard and their voices kept at the centre of all the decisions made about them. Our name embodies our intent, which is to provide an independent voice from children and young people to the care system, rather than an adult voice forthem.
We were created alongside Oranga Tamariki as an independent advocacy and support service. We work closely with a wide range of stakeholders across government, community and other advocacy groups and proactive engagement with these stakeholder groups will be essential to our success.
As a board, we work with challenging strategic issues facing children in care. Our trustees are committed and contribute from a wide range of backgrounds and skills. VOYCE is in scale up mode at the moment and we are growing fast. Trustees who can bring board experience as well as experience in change management or start-ups would be of particular interest. In addition, we require Trustees with understanding of one of the following: social services, youth and child services, Māori/Pasifika communities, advocacy and engagement. Most importantly we seek people with a genuine heart for children, and a commitment to improving care experience in New Zealand.
Meetings are monthly, usually on the last Wednesday evening of the month. They are held in Auckland, but there is the option for Trustees to attend via Skype. Appointments will be for an initial 3-year term. We currently expect 3-4 vacancies over the next 6 months.
