Known formally as the prisoner rehabilitation society, PARS is a charitable organisation that supports both prisoners, released prisoners, deportees, at risk youth and their whānau.  PARS philosophy and principles are based on practice, knowledge and structures informed and underpinned by kaupapa Māori, which are expressed through values of manaakitanga, whakapapa, wairuatanga and rangatiratanga.

Supported by, and working alongside senior management teams, you will lead, support and improve accommodation and employment outcomes for your clients through sustainable work and housing.  Bettering a client’s readiness for work, through training and education; supporting them managing their own residential tenancy, via sound financial literacy education, budgeting and planning.  Establish long-term relationships with clients ; who are recently released or due for release via a multidisciplinary approach and lead others to support clients to access appropriate support services such as; health and accommodation solutions, often supporting them for up to 12 months after they have secured employment.

This position will enable you to lead support for clients , released clients  and their whānau to address any underlying needs with essential services.  You will be leading a team responsible for delivering supported emergency and transitional accommodation where needed, re-integrative services, supported employment and at-risk youth services in both the Northern and Auckland Regions.  This is a highly customised and tailored process, understanding the highly individualised nature of each client, their specific needs and requirements and circumstances as well as their whānau/family.

With the demonstrated ability as a people influencer, your proven relationship management and expert communication skills will see you lead, support and manage others, setting the framework and standards for others to work from.

Experience, skills and competencies desirable are to include:

  • A tertiary degree is essential which would include, career or employment support psychology, HR Management, education or social services
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in recruitment, learning or capability development experience
  • Proven experience working in a leadership, mentoring or advising role, including past skills in the direct leadership and management of others
  • Excellent relationship development and management skills, including the ability to network, influence and negotiate
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural issues and concerns, knowledge of tikanga Māori and Pacific People’s.
  • Mana manaaki, the mana of others to uplift them in a way that honours their cultural background
  • The demonstrated ability to develop new relationships, grow existing ones, and capability for self-connectivity both within and across the organisation as well as externally
  • Understanding of NZ employment matters, such as equal employment opportunities and recruitment strategies.
  • Good understanding of best practice recruitment and selection, training and development processes and practices.
  • Experience working to support and implement projects/initiatives for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Empathetic, patient, values-driven and intuitive with a passion for working with vulnerable high needs people.
  • Computer literate and technologically savvy with sound knowledge and understanding of databases.
  • The ability to work to time driven KRA’s and deadlines.
  • Ability to undertake reflection and evaluation processes, including reporting and SWOT analysis.

With a large group of internal and external stakeholders, you will utilise your established rapport building skills, and highly tuned cultural competencies to achieve sound relationships as you monitor and report on the achievement of agreed employment programme responsibilities.

Understanding the best way to engage with a vulnerable high needs’ population group in a way that suits them and supports them to reach their potential; you will be highly organised with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines, with a pro-active flexible approach. A working knowledge of the social, justice or corrections sectors would be highly advantageous, as would your knowledge of employers in the greater Auckland/Northern region.

A current (full) New Zealand Drivers’ licence is a pre-requisite.
