The Lead Analyst – Māori Medium position is a critical role, with opportunity to use your analytical skills to make a difference for Māori Education. The role ensures that Matatū Aotearoa policy is effectively designed and implemented in Māori medium settings. Cognisant to key issues, influences and impacts that teachers of the Māori medium are exposed to, you’ll provide robust analytical and intellectual policy development advice. Able to deliver and influence, you will be a key point of contact with the Matatū Aotearoa Board, providing an information sharing conduit, coupled with co-designing opportunities as appropriate.
Reporting to the Manager Policy and Implementation, you will be able to demonstrate experience in successfully working and engaging across broad sector stakeholder groups including, Kōhanga reo, Kura kaupapa, Kura reo rua, Iwi, senior levels of government, and have an absolute level of comfort working across Te Tiriti o Waitangi partnership approaches to policy.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Education, Social Policy or Māori Development.
- Proficient written skills in both English and Te Reo.
- A policy, project planning or programme development background, honed within an NZ setting.
- Well-honed writing skills with the ability to draft, finalise documents, provide policy advice development, design and implementation recommendations.
- Proven relationship management and expert communication skills.
- Demonstrated research and evaluation methodology.
- The demonstrated ability as a people influencer.
- Sound understanding of relevant NZ legislation, policies and procedures.
Highly desirable is your prior experience working within education, NZ local/central government, and NGO or Māori economic development sectors.
Your agile responses will lead development of strategies and policies that will guide the operational delivery and implementation of cross-organisational work streams. You will be able to demonstrate experience in building engagement and partnerships at senior level with Iwi, government agencies, and across a diverse internal stakeholder group. Navigating two, often opposing, world views, you will provide advice, articulate challenges and deliver risk analysis to internal stakeholders.
Able to anticipate future consequences and risk accurately, you will have broad knowledge and perspective and be future oriented, in order to deliver breakthrough policy to stand the organisation in a safe, successful, and sustainable position. Manoeuvring through complex political situations effectively, you are sensitive to how people and the organisational function works and be able to adjust and retune policy to become better representative to a Māori world view.
Naturally, a high level of knowledge and competency in Te Reo me ona tikanga Māori within a mainstream environment is mandatory, as is the Mana you will have established amongst your contemporaries – coupled with the ability to apply a Māori lens to your mahi.
You will have the proven ability to bring together diverse and broad groups together, to lead and foster positive change that encourages a centralised way of working.
