Applications are invited for a full-time, three-year fixed term 0.7 FTE Lectureship (US equivalent Assistant Professor) in the Creative Writing programme of the School of English and Media Studies at Massey University. This position is based at the Manawatu campus in Palmerston North, New Zealand.

The School of English and Media Studies has a strong record in teaching excellence and pastoral care in an interactive learning environment. Courses are taught in internal (on-campus) and distance learning modes, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The School currently offers programmes in English, Media Studies, Creative Writing, Expressive Arts, Public and Professional Writing, and Theatre Studies.

We are looking for a candidate with demonstrated research and teaching experience. We will consider applicants with a strong track record of publication in poetry or fiction, but expertise in both would be preferred. Massey’s creative writing programmes combine creative practice with critical and analytical skills, from first-year courses through to doctoral level. The ability to situate creative practice within larger scholarly contexts is essential to this position.

Creative Writing is offered as a major in the Bachelor Arts. Creative writing courses also contribute to the Expressive Arts major in the Bachelor of Communication. Candidates are encouraged to view the full range of courses via our website at ems.massey.ac.nz.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in Creative Writing or related field, and significant publications in poetry /fiction. Experience in tertiary-level teaching is essential, and experience in distance teaching will be considered an advantage. The level of appointment will depend on qualifications and experience.

It is anticipated that the successful applicant will commence in January 2019.
