Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children operates four Care and Protection residences across New Zealand, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for young people aged between 8 to 17 years. Our residences are strongly focussed on achieving positive change in young people through education, skill development, therapeutic interventions, vocational and employment programmes with the goal of positive integration back into the community.
We support tamariki, family and whānau to restore their mana, their sense of self, their important connections and relationships, their right to heal and recover, and reach their potential.
Puketai Care and Protection residence in Dunedin offers a residential programme and a community based programme. The residence programme allows for a period of stabilisation and assessment for up to eight tamariki. This is provided through therapeutic interventions, meeting their health and specialist needs, re-engaging into mainstream education, skill development and a focus on cultural identity. The community based programme is run from two specialist group homes based in Dunedin and Invercargill. There are four tamariki in each home.
Puketai Residence is now looking for a professional with clinical skills and proven experience in developing plans and coordinating casework as part of a multi-disciplinary team to join us.
Your practice framework will require an understanding of:
- child development and behavioural theories
- trauma-informed care and attachment theory
- child focused and creative behavioural interventions.
As a Case Leader, you will report to a Team Leader Clinical Practice and be accountable for the leadership and delivery of all aspects of a young person's care plan. This includes the interventions, programmes and steps needed to effectively address health needs, behavioural issues and therapeutic services a young person in care requires to ensure successful transition from the Residence.
A qualification in psychology, occupational therapy, education, social work, health or another related field is a prerequisite and registration with a professional body is essential. A full, clean driver licence is also required.
