POU TIKANGA – CULTURAL MANAGER
(Full – time permanent position)
Kaupapa – Purpose

To drive the success of the Te Ātiawa Trust’s Cultural strategy. Ki te whakamana te tangata, te rohe me te Ahurea
  “E titia nei a Te Ātiawa, to shine as Te Ātiawa”

Ngā Pūkenga – Key Skills Required

  • Exemplary Te Reo Māori oral and written fluency, with emphasis on Te Ātiawa kupu and mita 

  • A proven cultural practitioner who promotes a strong role model of Te Ātiawatanga 

  • Strong knowledge and successful experience to design and deliver initiatives across all age groups that support the revitalisation of te reo Māori and Te Ātiawa cultural practice within the iwi 

  • Strong knowledge and successful experience to design and deliver initiatives across all age groups that support the revitalisation of te reo Māori and Te Ātiawa cultural practice within the iwi 

  • A knowledge and ability to strengthen the connections Te Ātiawa have with Te Waka a Māui iwi. 

  • Deliver effective language and cultural support to the continued development of Te Atiawa o te Waka a Maui Trust 

  • Liaise with Stakeholders and cultural matters 

  • Planning and organisational skills 

  • Professional experience and credibility 

  • Strong inter-personal skills 

  • Strategic thinking 


To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience working in Kaupapa Māori 

  • Have significant knowledge about Te Ātiawa Iwi ki te tau ihu 

  • Understand Tikanga/ Kawa a iwi and know the connections Te Ātiawa have 
with other iwi in Te Tau Ihu 

  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of tikanga 

  • A high fluency in Te Reo Māori and be a cultural practitioner 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Te Reo Māori 

  • The ability to engage effectively across all age groups 

  • The knowledge, skills and ability to drive the cultural revitalisation of Te 
Ātiawa o Te Waka a Māui. 

  • Assist Te Ātiawa Marae in the rohe to achieve their reo and cultural 
aspirations. 

  • Assist staff with cultural matters and information that may be required in their roles
