Seafood is one of New Zealand's largest industries, and seafood processing provides potential career pathways and a variety of jobs. Ngāi Tahu Seafood is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ngāi Tahu Holdings Group of companies. It has developed a significant international marketing and supply chain presence in New Zealand since our business inception in 1988. Our key products includes high quality Kōura (Rock Lobster), Pāua (Abalone), Rāwaru (Blue Cod) and the iconic Bluff Oyster (Tio). 

The Plant Supervisor, in conjunction with the Plant Manager and fellow Plant Supervisor, will operate and supervise the processing team and export activities ensuring that the shift's activities are compliant, productive and undertaken by competently trained and suitably qualified team members. 

To ensure operations are efficient, the successful applicant will be effectively coordinating the team's shift activities including: product collection, transportation, landing, grading, swimming, quality checks, cleaning, export load out transfer, maintaining water quality and inventory management.

To be successful in this role you will need the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Previous experience of supervising staff in a processing plant within a live seafood or similar product environment
  • Demonstrated leadership ability - must be capable of motivating the team and directing activities often within tight time schedules
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working without direct supervision
  • Sound administration and computer skills
  • Unit Standards in Food Safety Processing and Hygiene
  • Saltwater Reticulated systems is an advantage
  • ED / Ecert Qualification is preferable.
