Māori Health and Vulnerable Populations
- Permanent, full-time, district-wide position that could be based in Nelson or Blenheim
Nelson Marlborough DHB (trading as Nelson Marlborough Health - NMH) is seeking applications for yet another newly established and exciting role - Portfolio Manager Māori Health, with a specific emphasis on Maternal and Child Health, for NMH’s Māori Health team - Te Waka Hauora. This position could be based either in Nelson or Blenheim, and will have a district wide focus across the Nelson Marlborough region.
The position will manage both projects and initiatives on matters pertaining to Māori Maternal/Child Health and will report directly to Ditre Tamatea, the General Manager of Māori Health and Vulnerable Populations - as the head of Te Waka Hauora.
All applicants must have a sound understanding of tikanga Māori, our local Māori communities and maternal and child health matters - pertaining to Māori. Some understanding of Te Reo Māori would be an asset, though a basic knowledge could be developed further while on the job.
The role will be diverse in nature and will require project management of a range of programmes of action which seek to improve Māori Maternal/Child Health in the area of Safe Sleep, Breastfeeding, Smoke Free Pregnancies and much more - so experience in this area of work, including running or facilitating community projects, is essential.
You will also play an important part in facilitating the district’s first Kaupapa Māori Pregnancy and Parenting programme, in conjunction with a number of other stakeholders working in the area of maternal health. Ideally you’ll hold a certificate in adult teaching; however, we would be prepared to support our preferred applicant to gain an adult teaching qualification, while on the job, if necessary.
Nelson Marlborough Health’s GM Māori Health and Vulnerable Populations is looking to build a centre of excellence in Māori Health in the Top of the South Island and has accelerated the appointment of several key positions to enable this vision to become a working reality. Your ability to work as a cohesive member of a close-knit team and alongside other stakeholders will be essential to the success of Te Waka Hauora at NMH.
If this new and exciting role sounds like you, please apply to join our waka to help create positive change for those of our whanau who need it most.
Appointment and ongoing employment will be conditional upon criminal record/police checks. This may include checks under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.
