Use your knowledge of Te Reo Māori and lead lasting change
Teach First NZ
Closing Date : 11 Sep 2017
Do you want to lead and inspire change?
Here in Aotearoa New Zealand we need skilled graduates to make a real difference in the classroom and the wider community. We need individuals who are proficient writers and speakers of te reo Māori to work in schools and ensure that all our young people are achieving their full potential. The Teach First NZ programme is your opportunity to support nga rangtahi ki te rangitira while changing your own life.
You have strong relationship building skills, a proven record of achievement and possess a genuine desire to use your skills and experiences to make a real difference. You're also someone who combines a strong work ethic and self-discipline with warmth, empathy, and humility and a genuine openness to learning.
If this sounds like you, the team at Teach First NZ would love to meet you!
We believe that those who can teach, can lead. Teach First NZ Ako Mātātupu is an innovative not-for-profit organisation. We develop outstanding individuals into highly effective teachers and inspirational community leaders, who go on to tackle one of New Zealand's most pressing issues - educational inequality.
We believe two things can make a big difference to educational inequality:
- Great teachers working to raise aspiration and achievement in high-need classrooms; and
- Leaders at all levels of our society, equipped with the skills to affect large-scale change.
The Teach First NZ programme aims to deliver on both.
Our programme provides carefully selected participants with the opportunity to use their skills and experiences to have a meaningful impact. Participants support a school community while working as a part-time teacher in a secondary school that serves a low socioeconomic area.
The Teach First NZ programme offers a big challenge that comes with autonomy, responsibility, and freedom. You will not only see the real and tangible impact that you can have on your students and the community, but will also receive a full-time salary and a full scholarship towards a Masters in Education and Leadership.
For many of our participants, the end of the two-year programme marks the next step in their careers as they take on leadership positions in schools and other organisations where they continue making a difference to educational inequality.
