The role of Te Pane Matua Taiao; Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) is to protect our environment while meeting the cultural, social and economic needs of our communities. They’re specifically responsible for the region’s natural environment; including flood protection, biosecurity, provision of regional parks, public transport planning and funding, and partnering for climate change resilience.
Within the council, Te Hunga Whiriwhiri rōpū embrace their privileged role upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the values of the partnership between GWRC and mana whenua in the region. They provide support and advice on governance relationships, strategic and operational leadership, policy and planning which unlocks the potential of Māori communities, effective communication and engagement with Māori and leadership on te reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Roles:
We are looking for four Senior Advisor, Māori who will be instrumental in leading transformative approaches, developing culturally appropriate policies and strategies, and leading the design and implementation of frameworks and programs to ensure GWRC's commitment as a good Tiriti partner.
Working closely with Directors and Managers, the Senior Advisors will ensure the integration of mana whenua aspirations into organisational strategies and operational functions. Additionally, they will support organisational development, providing specialist guidance across diverse projects, embedding te reo, tikanga, and te ao Māori throughout the organisation to achieve Te Whāriki, The Māori Outcomes Framework and contribute to GWRC's environmental functions from a strategic and operational policy perspective.
Mōu | About You:
As a current Senior Advisor, you will be experienced in leading transformative change and adept at shifting systems. You’ll excel in scoping and planning to shape approaches and deliver key outcomes. Your expertise in policy-making, including
Alongside this, you will be kaupapa driven with a deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao Māori, including tikanga and Mātauranga Māori as it relates to the environmental regulation function. Relevant qualifications in public policy, social research, or Māori studies, coupled with demonstrated leadership in policy and planning projects, are required. Intellectual agility, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams are essential.
